ELEVATOR PITCH
Returns health care 2 yrs earlier, rebuilds downtown, saves $300 million for other projects, avoids destruction of neighborhoods–Saves Charity, Saves Lower Mid-City, Saves Downtown
THE REST OF THE STORY
By rebuilding Charity Hospital to serve as the new LSU Academic Medical Center, we would save taxpayers $283 million, or 34% of the project cost for the LSU hospital portion alone. That money can be used to fund other much-needed projects. The Charity Hospital rehabilitation would be completed at least two years faster than the current LSU proposal

Simply put: we would get the same hospital in a downtown location quicker and for less cost by rebuilding in the shell of Charity Hospital.

The current LSU/VA proposal would abandon Charity Hospital, destroy a 67-acres of Lower Mid-City, and threaten the vitality of downtown New Orleans.

The best part: this isn't just wishful thinking! There is a viable alternative that includes rebuilding Charity Hospital as a world-class institution.

RMJM Hillier, a nationally-recognized architecture and planning firm (who also designed the new Cancer Research Center), found the Charity Hospital building to be structurally sound–with its original design being architecturally exceptional and "ahead of its time."

The RMJM Hillier plan incorporates the same health care delivery systems proposed for the LSU Academic Medical Center, but locates them within a state-of-the-art rehabilitation of Charity Hospital.
